Coniferus trees has special glandular cells where resin forms, it is a viscous liquid or a thick composition of essential oils and resin acids. Resinous secretion flows trhough canals to the cut places of the tree trunks protecting plants from insects at the same time. When the tree dies it usually disappears. In places without free oxygen, like swamps for example, coal forms from plant remains. Amber is formed as a result of the fossilization of resin, it is the fossilized conifer tree resin. It has been known and admired for thousand of years and it is the only jewel that gave name to some »European main road«-amber road. In ancient times this road on which famous baltic amber was transported used to cross today Slovenian territory. Today amber has become very popular again. Beside classic yellow and brown colours we can find red, blue and even green amber. During lecturing you will find out about amber characteristics and how to distinguish it from other resins, specially imitations.
